We’d also like to give a shot out to Mike Rae and Kris McDaniel. Both of these fine gentlemen have donated their time, energies, and services to getting this album done. Mike is our art guy and has put together a really excellent looking CD package, and Kris mastered the record for us. Both did this stuff for free, and we are eternally grateful.

New Album

The new album is almost done. Mixing is nearly done on most of the songs, and there are just a few little overdubs on the others. We’re still hashing out the title and release date and all that, but we’ll let you know when we do.

Upcoming Gigs:

We have one upcoming gig scheduled at this point – Saturday, March 29 at Good Nature Brewing in Hamilton, NY. We’ll be playing from 9:00pm – 12:00am. We’re looking to get a couple additional gigs set up for the spring, and we’ll pass that information along when we have it.

Upcoming show in Ithaca, new record & our music in a film

We just wanted to let you know that we have a show coming up on Sunday, August 4 at the North Star House in Ithaca, NY (which you should check out whether you can make it to the show or not). We’re playing in their beer garden from 3:00 – 6:00pm. Unfortunately, with our schedules being as crazy as they are, Tom isn’t able to play the show, but the rest of us will be there with bells on.

In recording news, we’re still plugging away at the new record. The basic tracks are (almost) done as are a significant chunk of the overdubs. It’s sounding good and we think you’re going to like it.

Lastly, Frequent Milkweed back-up singer, Daeya Malboeuf used some of our music in a short documentary film she made about Taphopiles called “Stories In Stone”, which you can watch here.

“King Lee” Theme Song & Other Fun Stuff

We have a wide variety of news and updates from Milkweeds-land for you today:

“Mayor!!!” (King Lee Theme Song):
We are very honored to have collaborated with the wonderful Danan Tsan to record the theme song for Jonathan Case & Tim Ferlito’s feature film King Lee. We saw the film just last night, and it was amazingly good so if you’re able, you should check out the next Syracuse screening on Thursday, May 9 at the Palace Theater. You can pick up tickets here. It’s worth every penny.

You can also download our recording of the King Lee theme song, “Mayor!!!”, for FREE here. Tell your friends, download it, turn it up loud, and enjoy.

Recording:
We have also been hard at work recording the new Milkweeds album. If things go as planned, we should have the basic tracks finished by the end of May and will be recording overdubs over the summer. It’s too early for a title or a track order or album art or anything like that, but we can tell you what songs are going to be on it and who wrote them:

  • “Cemetery” (Malboeuf)
  • “Combine” (Lohr)
  • “Dyin’ Blues” (Lohr)
  • “Just Like That” (Malboeuf)
  • “Other People’s Eyes” (Vande Berg)
  • “Perfect Gurl” (Lohr)
  • “Roll, Train, Roll” (Vande Berg)
  • “Saint Julian” (Malboeuf)
  • “What The Sky Intended” (Baron)
  • “Which One To Take” (Baron)
  • “Whiskey Bottle” (Vande Berg)

Twin Cousins Records Compilation:
Just a reminder that “The Ballad of Evel Knievel” appears on the new Twin Cousins Records compilation album, We’re In Over Our Heads, But At Least Our Feet Are Wet. We’ll be getting some vinyl copies soon that you can buy from us, but you can download the record (or buy the vinyl if you just can’t wait) here.

Other Random Info:
We’re not scheduling any gigs for a while as we finish up the new album, but hopefully, we’ll get some dates arranged for the fall. If you have any ideas, let us know. Also, in his free time,

Travis recorded an album of (very non-Milkweeds-sounding) instrumentals. You can download it for FREE here (it says “Buy Now” but you can just enter a price of zero if you like). If you like it, tell your friends.

Twin Cousins Records (again)

We’ve posted a couple of times now aTwin Cousins Recordsbout our friends’ new label – Twin Cousins Records – and the indiegogo campaign they are running to help finance their first release (a vinyl compilation album featuring a song by us), but we thought that we’d give you a little more information on some of the bands that will be appearing on the record. Enjoy!

Anyway, those are the bands we know about. Give their music a listen and think about throwing a little money at Twin Cousins Records to help them with the project.

The 2012 Christmas Single is here!

Hey, everyone…

After the success of last year’s Christmas single, we decided to record another one this year. The a-side is a John original, “Road Trip Christmas”, and the b-side is “Your Christmas Card”, a slightly less cheery original by Travis. You can download it for FREE here. Enjoy, tell your friends, and have a great holiday season!

Also, we’d like to remind those of you who are in a giving mood that our friend Dan Mistich and his brother are starting a record company called Twin Cousins Records. They are going to be releasing a vinyl and digital compilation of bands as a kick-off/fundraiser for the label, and The Milkweeds are happy to announce that the compilation will have one of our songs in addition to songs from other great bands and musicians, including former The Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay.  We’ll keep you updated on the availability of the compilation and all that as the release date nears, but until then, Twin Cousins is running an indiegogo campaign to raise some money for the release. The campaign has some great perks so check it out and donate if you’re so inclined. I mean, how often do you get to get in on the ground floor of a record company?

King Lee + Twin Cousins Records + recording

Greetings! We have three bits of info to pass along to you today. Usually we’re all about promoting our own thing here at Milkweeds Headquarters and we promise not to stray from that very often, but there are a couple of things happening that are both just plain cool and also kind-of-sort-of to more-or-less related to the band.

King Lee extras needed:
First and kind-of-sort-of related to the band, our friend Tim Ferlito and his friend Jonathan Case have been making a feature-length film called King Lee “about” (read:”the brazenly untrue story of”) former Syracuse mayor Lee Alexander. Their filming is wrapping up soon, and they are looking for a lot of extras (100 or more) to be in an auditorium scene on November 4 from 6:00-7:00pm at LeMoyne College in Syracuse. The film is set in the 1970s, but while wearing some kind of ’70s getup will increase your odds of making it into the film, it is not required. If you are interested in being an extra in the scene, please just reply to this email with your name (or names if you know of other folks that would be interested), and we’ll pass them along to Tim. Several of The Milkweeds have already served as extras, and we had a fine time.

Twin Cousins Records:
Second and more-or-less Milkweeds related, our pre-Brandon soundguy Dan Mistich and his brother are starting a record company called Twin Cousins Records.

Recording:
Last and certainly entirely Milkweeds related, we’re kicking off the recording of our new nowhere-near-even-approaching-the-faintest-idea-of-a-title untitled record next week. May the basement recording gods look fondly upon us.

Fall Tour + EP + New Album

Hello. Milkweeds HQ here with a few news items for your Friday enjoyment…

Fall Tour
We Milkweeds are simple folks with busy lives. We get together to practice, we write and records some songs, we play the occasional live gig, and then three months later we play another live gig. That’s how we roll. So when find the time to string together multiple shows in a fairly compact amount of time, we’re gonna call it a tour. In that spirit, we are pleased to announce our…

2012 Fall World U.S. Northeast Upstate New York Tour:

And our first show of 2013:

EP:
We’ve been spending the last few weeks working on an EP that will consist (mostly) of songs from our last album re-recorded with Michael playing drums. The EP will be a free download, and we hope to finish it up in the next month or so. We’ll let you know when it’s done and where you can download it.

New Album:
Finally, we’ve also been demoing songs for a new album that we’ll likely start recording this fall. It will include the new songs we’ve been playing live recently, some new songs we’ll probably play live for the first time this fall, and some other new songs that we haven’t got around to figuring out quite yet. Stay tuned.
